Likewise, the Head of State reaffirmed her Government’s commitment to sustained growth, infrastructure modernization, and improvements in public services, particularly education.

Remarks were made during a presentation to investors and business leaders attending the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) High-Level Dialogue in New York.

Within this framework, the top official highlighted the country’s stable macroeconomic fundamentals.

Similarly, she emphasized Peru’s favorable business environment.

“What are Peru’s strengths? And why do you think you, investors, could be willing to come to Peru? What do you look for when you analyze a country? You look for sustainable growth supported by strong fundamentals. And Peru has both,” she stated, addressing the audience.

The President noted that the Peruvian economy has positive indicators, including 3.4% growth, international reserves worth US$100 billion, a deficit equivalent to 1.8% of GDP, and public debt at nearly 30% of GDP—one of the lowest in the region.

The Head of State particularly underscored the Central Reserve Bank’s (BCR) autonomy and emphasized Julio Velarde’s continued leadership of the institution as a sign of stability and confidence for markets.

This event was attended by Colombian Vice President Jose Manuel Restrepo, CAF Executive President Sergio Diaz-Granados, Macquarie Group CEO Shemara Wikramanayake, senior executives, institutional investors, and government representatives.

Government seeks to attract investment

President Fujimori said Peru’s Constitution guarantees equal conditions for domestic and foreign investors.

Furthermore, the Head of State emphasized that the South American country maintains an open policy toward international trade.

“We have the fundamental bases for you to come and invest in our country, and we have a Government that knows how to take decisions,” she emphasized.

In this regard, the top official emphasized that her administration is focused on facilitating projects and making decisions that boost economic development.

“It is always very easy to say no; what is difficult is to say yes, to find solutions. And this is what we are going to do,” she said.

Infrastructure to boost productivity

As part of the Government’s vision for the next five years, the President announced a strong commitment to infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the country’s competitiveness and creating better opportunities for the population.

“We are going to invest a lot in infrastructure to improve productivity,” she noted.

The Head of State specified that road, airport, and mass transit projects will be promoted, including the development of metro lines in the capital and urban mobility projects in cities such as Arequipa and Trujillo.

The top official also acknowledged deficiencies in the healthcare system.

She indicated that a digital transformation will be necessary to reduce waiting times and enhance services for citizens.

Education as the administration’s main legacy

The President said education will be her administration’s main axis and assured attendees that investments will be geared toward improving both educational infrastructure and the quality of teaching.

“Our plan is to build infrastructure — 2,000 schools for the next five years. We are going to build around 450 or 500 schools in the next years,” Fujimori stated.

The Head of State reported that 3,000 educational institutions will be repaired nationwide to provide suitable learning environments.

The top official indicated that curriculum changes will also be promoted to strengthen reading and mathematics skills, expand English-language instruction, and reinforce teacher training.

“My legacy will be education because I believe education transforms societies,” she pointed out.

Peru to strengthen regional integration

The President highlighted the restoration of relations with Colombia and Mexico.

Moreover, the Head of State reaffirmed her Government’s interest in revitalizing economic integration mechanisms.

In this context, the top official announced that she will make an official visit to Mexico before the end of this year.

“I am going to travel at the end of the year to Mexico to be able to relaunch the Pacific Alliance,” Fujimori announced.

The President reminded attendees that Peru is part of the Pacific Alliance together with Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, in addition to actively participating in the Andean Community and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

At the close of her remarks, she reaffirmed Peru’s openness to investment and international trade, highlighting the country’s strategic location in South America and its ties with markets in Asia, North America, and the region.
