Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi called on US companies on Wednesday to seize investment opportunities available in Iraq, particularly in the petrochemicals, glass, and phosphate industries, as well as the gas and clean energy sectors.
Al-Zaidi’s remarks took place during his meeting in New York with a delegation from the US Chamber of Commerce, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The prime minister stated that Iraq has considerable natural resources, human resources, and a key geographical position, all of which serve as necessary foundations for successful partnerships. He explained that the government is seeking to use these resources to promote economic development and increase investment possibilities.
Al-Zaidi emphasized the government’s commitment to providing support for businesses and investors, such as granting ownership of land for investment projects in accordance with Iraqi laws, as well as access to tax and customs exemptions for up to ten years.
Iraq is working on infrastructure and transportation projects, notably the strategic project of the Development Road, which will improve Iraq’s position as a corridor connecting the East and West, according to al-Zaidi.
The prime minister affirmed that the government looks forward to establishing factories and setting up projects to diversify the economy and create job opportunities.
Al-Zaidi also asked members of the US Chamber of Commerce and specialized firms to attend the Baghdad Energy Conference and capitalize on the prospects offered in the country. He added that Iraq aspires to establish economic partnerships based on collaboration, mutual interest, and long-term investment.
