Two civilians, including a truck driver and his assistant, were killed and two trucks were destroyed by airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force along the Mandalay-Myitkyina highway, in Indaw Township’s Sattawkone village, Sagaing Region, on Wednesday.

A truck driver told DVB on the condition of anonymity that the airstrikes hit a resting place. Indaw, located 209 miles (336 km) north of the Sagaing Region capital Monywa, was seized by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) on April 7, 2025. 

A PDF member told DVB that an unknown number of residents from Sattawkone and nearby villages fled their homes after it was reported that the aircraft took off from Mandalay’s Tada-U Air Force base heading to Indaw. 

Residents and rescue workers in Indaw told DVB that there was not any fighting between the PDF and regime forces when the airstrikes occurred on Sept. 23.

They claimed that the military is attempting to block locals’ access to fuel and goods by targeting a rest stop. 

At least 2,766 people have been killed and over 5,400 have been injured in aerial attacks, which include airstrikes, drone, paramotor and gyrocopter attacks, since March 28, 2025. 

Nearly 850 people have been killed and 1,867 people have been injured in 903 aerial attacks across Sagaing Region, according to DVB data.
