Actor Nani requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Director General of Police C.V. Anand to let him watch the premiere of his upcoming film, “The Paradise”, with fans at a theatre at RTC X Roads. However, the police flagged crowd management concerns amid the ongoing Ganesh idol immersions and an earlier tragedy at Sandhya theatre.

Nani had sought permission from the Chief Minister, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and the Telangana Police to attend the film’s premiere at a theatre at RTC X Roads on Wednesday.

Making the request on X, the actor spoke about the experience of watching films with an audience and said that the particular place is important in cinema culture. He also said the film team would adhere to the necessary safety protocols.

Responding to the actor, Mr. Revanth Reddy appreciated his stated commitment to safety but directed the film team to follow the formal procedure instead of granting permission through the social media exchange.

He asked the team to submit an official application to the designated local police station, which would assess the request from the standpoint of crowd management and public safety before taking a decision.

The Chief Minister also tagged the Telangana DGP in his response, prompting Mr. Anand to weigh in on the request.

Addressing Nani and director Srikanth Odela, the DGP pointed out that the proposed premiere coincided with the 10th day of Ganesh idol immersions, when thousands of idols were expected to be immersed across the State, including the Hussainsagar.

With RTC X Roads close to routes leading towards the lake, the Hyderabad police would have to assess whether sufficient personnel could be deployed for the actor’s visit while a sizeable police force was already engaged in immersion bandobust, he said.

Mr. Anand also referred to the December 2024 Sandhya Theatre incident, in which a woman, Revathi, died and her son Sri Tej was critically injured during a crowd surge associated with the premiere of Pushpa 2.

The reference assumes significance as Sandhya Theatre is located at RTC X Roads, the same area where Nani has sought to watch “The Paradise” with fans.

The DGP said the Hyderabad city police would examine the request keeping the prevailing circumstances and deployment requirements in mind.

Nani subsequently responded that the team understood the importance of public safety, particularly in view of the Ganesh immersion arrangements.

“We completely understand the importance of public safety, especially with the Ganesh Nimarjanam arrangements,” he said, adding that the team did not want to add to the burden on the police or cause inconvenience to the public. He said the team would respect the final decision taken by the police.

Meanwhile, Chikkadpally police said that no formal application from the film team had been received. Police officials said they were occupied with security arrangements for the Ganesh immersions and that any request received would be examined taking law and order and public safety into consideration.
