Voters begin casting their ballots in Juneau municipal election

Ballots have been mailed and in-person voting has begun as the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ)’s 2026 regular municipal election gets underway.
Local voters have until 8 p.m. on Oct. 6 to cast their ballots by mail or at a vote center to choose new assembly members, school board representatives, and decide on three tax-related ballot propositions. Registered voters should have already received or soon receive their ballots by mail.
Completed ballots can then be returned at a secure ballot drop box available 24 hours a day at City Hall, Statter Harbor Boat Launch Parking in Auke Bay, Douglas Public Library, the Alaska Electric and Power Company in Lemon Creek, and Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
“Voters can also return their ballot through the U.S. Postal Service using first class postage,” CBJ stated. “Voters are encouraged to take their ballot to a USPS counter and request a hand postmark.”
Ballots returned via USPS must be postmarked on or before Oct. 6.
Vote centers will also be open until Oct. 5 for people who need assistance voting, require an ADA accessible ballot, did not receive a ballot in the mail, or prefer to vote in person. City Hall Assembly Chambers will be open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while Mendenhall Public Library will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
Both vote centers will be open on election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
