Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said the state government plans to modernise all government hospitals and develop them to provide healthcare services on the lines of corporate hospitals.
Saha made the statement while inaugurating 18 new intensive care unit (ICU) facilities and an advanced centralised sterilisation service at the super speciality block of GB Hospital.
He said government hospitals were places of trust for the general public and the government was working to provide modern and improved healthcare services at such facilities.
Saha said the initiative was aimed at strengthening public confidence in government healthcare services and reducing the tendency among people to travel outside the state for treatment.
He also said the government was working to improve medical education in the state and the work on the proposed Health University would begin soon.
The chief minister said the government was sensitive to the need for improving healthcare services and accountable to the people. He also stressed the need for doctors and other healthcare workers to maintain more sympathetic and courteous behaviour towards patients and their family members.
The government was also making arrangements for a green corridor to ensure that ambulances carrying critically ill patients could reach hospital emergency departments quickly, Saha said.
The programme was attended by MLA Minarani Sarkar, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Agartala Government Medical College Principal Tapan Majumdar and GB Hospital Superintendent Bidhan Goswami.
The statement comes as the state government plans to expand and modernise services at government hospitals, with the chief minister linking improvements in healthcare delivery with medical education and emergency response services.
