INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis firefighters say arson may be a possible cause of an early morning house fire on Indy’s near east side.

The fire broke out at the vacant residence in the 200 block of North Walcott Street around 1:40 a.m. Monday. That address is in the Arsenal Heights neighborhood between East Washington and East New York streets.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews arrived and found heavy fire coming from the two-story home. The fire reportedly damaged three other homes nearby.

While no one was at the residence at the time of the fire, a man living next door was evacuated by IFD and was checked on scene for smoke inhalation.

IFD says the fire was under control in an hour.
