Within this framework, the potential of an infrastructure project portfolio and private investment mobilization to contribute to the country’s development was stressed.
The meeting was attended by Economy and Finance Minister Elmer Cuba; IFC Regional Vice President for Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean Alfonso Garcia Mora; IFC Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Elizabeth Martinez de Marcano; World Bank Director for Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela Ariel Yepez; and IFC Country Manager for Peru Ivana Fernandes Duarte.
Following the event, Garcia Mora spoke positively about his meeting with the Head of State.
Likewise, he underscored the alignment between the priorities outlined for Peru and the areas of work of the WBG’s IFC.
“It was a fantastic meeting. It was a pleasure to meet the President in person,” he underscored.
Garcia Mora emphasized the conditions currently prevailing in Peru for moving toward a higher growth level, referring to the country’s macroeconomic and political stability and the Government’s intention to promote greater private-sector participation.
“A higher level that, besides, I believe can clearly be achieved because the macroeconomic stability that exists in this country is enormous and, together with political stability and the Government’s intention to attract private investment, could lead to this economy’s potential growth doubling in the coming years,” he stated.
Regarding infrastructure, the IFC representative said Peru requires significant investment in roads, water, and energy.
Furthermore, he noted that the WBG can contribute to structuring these initiatives.
Moreover, Garcia Mora highlighted Peru’s mining potential.
He also noted that growing global demand for minerals linked to the digital economy and artificial intelligence development is creating opportunities for the country.
