The Visakhapatnam district-level Yogasana Championship was held at Yoga Village on Beach Road on Sunday, with nearly 300 students and yoga enthusiasts participating, according to the organisers.
The championship was organised by the Yogasana Sports Association of Visakhapatnam under the guidance of the Yogasana Sports Association Andhra Pradesh, affiliated to Yogasana Bharat.
Competitions were held in six age categories: sub-juniors (10-14), juniors (14-18), seniors (18-28), seniors A (28-35), seniors B (35-45) and seniors C (45-55). Participants competed in traditional yogasana, artist solo, artist pair, rhythmic pair and group categories.
Students from government, private and aided schools and universities across the district participated.
K. Ramesh Babu, Head of the Department at Andhra University’s Yoga Village, said practising asanas helped maintain physical health and mental stability. He advised children to practise asanas with dedication.
Durga Sai, K.A. Raju, DSP Prasada Rao, Chilaka Venkata Ramesh, Y.K. Prabhakar and Kiran Kumar served as directors of the event. Karibandi Ramakrishna and Raghavendra served as judges.
Organising member T.S.V. Prasada Rao said the first, second and third-prize winners would be sent to the State-level competitions to be held next month.
