Due to the postponement of the start of the school year from September 1 to September 15, some schoolchildren in Kyrgyzstan are attending classes on Saturday for the first time today.
As a reminder, students in grades 6–11 are required to attend classes on Saturdays in order to «fully cover the curriculum and ensure the quality of education.»
In total, according to the Ministry of Education, eight additional Saturday school days are planned throughout the academic year.
A schedule of recommended Saturday school days for the 2026–2027 academic year has appeared on social media:
- September 19 — for September 2,
- October 17 — for September 3,
- November 21 — for September 4,
- December 19 — for September 7,
- January 16 — for September 8,
- February 20 — for September 9,
- March 20 — for September 10,
- April 17 — for September 11,
- May 22 — for September 14.
The Ministry of Education told 24.kg news agency that it does not prepare a schedule of Saturday classes. Schools and district education departments determine the dates independently, so the schedule above may not apply to all schools.
Students in grades 1–5 will continue with the existing five-day school week.
The academic year is scheduled to end as planned on May 25.
