New Princess Diana documentary featuring confidential audio tapes

Nearly three decades after her death, Princess Diana remains a compelling subject for arts and literature, most recently featuring in the new three-part documentary series “Diana Unheard”, which presents previously unreleased audio recordings of the late royal.

Global rights to the three-part series have been acquired by Cineflix Rights from the independent British production company Love Monday TV, known for producing royal programs for ITV and Channel 5.

The series features “the People’s Princess” reflecting on her life, personal relationships, and the royal family.

Producers gained access to secret conversations recorded in 1991 between Diana and her close friend, Dr. James Colthurst—tapes that served as the primary source for Andrew Morton’s groundbreaking biography, “Diana: Her True Story”.

Both Colthurst and Morton appear in the documentary alongside Diana’s audio tracks, where she discusses Prince Charles (his title at the time), Camilla, and Prince Andrew.

Speaking to Deadline, Kieran Barfield, Creative Director at Love Monday TV, stated: “With this series, we wanted to challenge the long-standing narrative depicting Diana, Princess of Wales, merely as a victim of her circumstances. Here, we do not see Diana as a passive victim of events, but as a woman taking control of her own narrative and risking everything to make her voice heard.”

“Diana Unheard” is set to premiere at the MIPCOM trade market in Cannes, France, nearly 30 years after the Princess died in a Paris car crash at age 36 in August 1997. The debut comes amidst a public rift between Buckingham Palace and Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, over his new memoir, “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister”, which examines his sister’s life and tragic death.
