The ‘Devbhoomi Sanskritik Mahotsav-2026’ (Devbhoomi Cultural Festival-2026) will be organized on September 19 and 20, 2026, at the Tourist Arrival Plaza in Badrinath. This event is being held under the joint aegis of the Indian Army and the Chamoli District Administration as part of ‘Operation Sadbhavana,’ with the aim of providing a national platform to showcase Uttarakhand’s rich folk cultural traditions, local products, and the vibrant heritage of its border regions. The theme of the festival is ‘Hamari Virasat, Hamara Madhyam’ (Our Heritage, Our Medium). Key attractions of this two-day festival will include Garhwali folk dance and music, cultural performances by schools and colleges, stalls featuring local products, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, and women’s self-help groups, as well as exhibitions by local entrepreneurs. The Indian Army will also organize a special exhibition showcasing its commitment to nation-building, border security, and social welfare.
The festival aims to introduce people from across the country to the rich cultural heritage, folk traditions, and the way of life in the border regions, centered around the sacred land of Badrinath. Through this initiative, efforts will be made to provide market access for local products from border areas, empower women and youth to become self-reliant, encourage local entrepreneurship, and boost tourism. The festival will also highlight the natural beauty, cultural diversity, and spiritual significance of border villages, thereby giving fresh momentum to tourism and the local economy. Local artists, artisans, farmers, women’s self-help groups, and young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and products to pilgrims and tourists visiting from within the country and abroad. Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on the economic empowerment of women and the promotion of self-employment through local products. Adequate arrangements regarding security, medical facilities, parking, sanitation, traffic management, and other civic amenities have been made for the convenience of the pilgrims and tourists attending the festival.
Through ‘Operation Sadbhavana,’ the Indian Army is undertaking various initiatives in border regions related to education, healthcare, skill development, infrastructure, and social development. The ‘Devbhoomi Sanskritik Mahotsav-2026’ stands as a significant example of this spirit; it will serve as a medium to strengthen coordination between the Indian Army and the civil administration and foster public participation, while simultaneously promoting the cultural identity and local livelihoods of the border regions.
