Egypt, Sudan discuss joint agricultural projects on Sudanese land

Egypt and Sudan discussed developing joint agricultural projects on Sudanese land and cooperating on the production and supply of strategic crops as the two countries seek to strengthen food security and deepen agricultural integration.

The talks brought together Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, Sudanese Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qurashi Abdullah, and Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority Chairperson Bahaa El-Ghannam, along with officials from both countries.

The meeting explored ways to utilise Sudan’s agricultural land and resources for joint projects aimed at supporting food security, according to a statement from the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority.

Officials also discussed opportunities to produce, supply, and import strategic agricultural crops to help meet market demand and expand agricultural trade between the two countries.

The statement did not specify which crops are under consideration, the amount of Sudanese land that could be allocated to the projects, the expected investment value, or a timetable for their launch.

The proposed projects would comply with laws and agreements governing water resources, the statement said. Both sides also agreed that investments should be economically and environmentally sustainable, with an emphasis on efficient resource use and long-term agricultural cooperation.
