With a game in hand, Samoa’s Tifaimoana have qualified for the 2027 Netball World Cup, which will be held in Sydney, Australia.
The Tifaimoana have spent the past week in Tonga competing in the Oceania Netball World Cup Qualifier tournament.
In the round-robin competition, the top two teams would receive automatic qualification for the Netball World Cup.
The women from Samoa began their campaign with a strong 72-56 victory over Papua New Guinea.
They then had to dig deep to overcome Fiji in a tightly contested match, securing a 56-50 win for the Tifaimoana.
On the other side of the draw, Tonga had also won two of their matches, making the equation straightforward for Samoa, win their third match against the Cook Islands and they would be heading to the World Cup.
With so much on the line, the Tifaimoana came out firing from the first quarter and did not let up until the final whistle.
They left nothing to chance, punching their ticket to Sydney with a convincing 72-50 victory over the Cook Islands.
This will be Samoa’s ninth appearance at the Netball World Cup and marks their return to the international stage after missing out on the 2023 World Cup.
