Dok’n’Ritam Music Documentary Festival is starting soonSerbian Monitor

The eleventh edition of the Dok’n’Ritam music documentary film festival will be held from 24th to 27th September 2026 across various venues in Belgrade – the Yugoslav Film Archive (Jugoslovenska kinoteka), the SOKOJ Club, and Dorćol Platz, under the slogan “011-You’ve got a call!”.

The festival will be officially opened on 24th September at 19:30 at the Yugoslav Film Archive with the world premiere of a film about the inimitable Mitar Subotić Suba, a pioneer of contemporary electronic and experimental music in Yugoslavia. Igor Lečić’s music documentary “Gringo Paulista” portrays the period Suba spent in Brazil from 1990 until his tragic death in 1999. This emotional documentary work is packed with exclusive archive footage and brilliant cinematography. His close friends and collaborators from that period discuss Suba’s music, production, and impact on the Brazilian music scene.

The film by renowned director Andrej Košak, “Punk under a Communist Regime”, which will be screened on 26th September, highlights interesting, uncompromising, and witty figures of the punk expression such as Berlinski zid, Ljubljanski psi, Grupa 92, Buldozi, Kuzle, Šund, Via Offensive, O Kult!, Industbag, Otroci socijalizma, and others. The film maps the period between 1977 and 1985. Their rebellion represented the first serious counter-cultural blow to the single-party regime in the SFRY.

The festival will close at the Yugoslav Film Archive on Sunday, 27th September with an awards ceremony followed by a screening of the film “Flamenco Dynasty”, which follows the life of the celebrated dancer Farruquito and his family. For decades, they have elevated the art of flamenco with incredible dedication. At the same time, the filmmakers portray complex family ties, a profound love for dance, and the tragedies that shaped their path to global success.

Tickets for screenings will be available from the box office at the Yugoslav Film Archive at 1 Uzun Mirkova Street. Tickets for the opening and closing films will cost 500 dinars, while tickets for all other films and specific film groups will be 400 dinars.

The full programme is available on the Instagram and Facebook pages of Dok’n’Ritam.
