Hungarian Transport Minister Dávid Vitézy said that the Hungarian section of the Budapest – Belgrade railway will undergo simulated full-load testing on 3 and 4 October. 

As he stated, trains will run without passengers for hours at a speed of 160 kilometres per hour.

A final decision on the start of regular passenger services will be made following the completion of the test and the analysis of the results.

Vitézy noted that the strictest safety checks have been continuously carried out on the railway since the summer.

“During the testing, minor issues and errors emerged, most of which have been resolved, while some are still being worked on. The most important result of today’s meeting is that the investor MÁV, the contractor, the MÁV railway maintenance operational service, independent experts, and the railway authorities have confirmed that during the most detailed testing of the railway traffic management system, not a single critical safety flaw was discovered,” Vitézy said, as reported by N1.

The Hungarian minister stated that the start of passenger services is already in sight, but that they cannot deviate from the principle that passengers will only use the new railway once all safety checks have been successfully completed and confirmed by the competent authorities and independent experts.

“It is important to emphasise that passenger facilities along the railway will still be construction sites during testing, so only experts and employees participating in the testing should be present there. I ask citizens to be extra cautious at level crossings, to cross the railway exclusively at designated places, respecting signage and regulations, especially considering that the number of trains on this line will increase during October,” he added.
