MOUNT PLEASANT — A local influencer was arrested on charges involving the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the S.C. Attorney General’s Office.

Carson Dean Barry, 23, from Mount Pleasant, was taken into custody Sept. 10 by investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the attorney general’s office said. He is charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of criminal solicitation of a minor.

Each count is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, with a conviction.

“Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to Barry,” the attorney general’s said in a news release. “Investigators state Barry solicited a minor for sex and possessed files of child sexual abuse material.”

Barry has more than 420,000 followers on TikTok and nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram under the handles @icarsonlocked and @carson.barryyy, respectively.

In addition to the attorney general’s office, ICAC Task Force and Mount Pleasant police, others that assisted in the investigation are Homeland Security Investigations, Summerville Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. All are members of the state’s ICAC Task Force.
