A massive fire has engulfed a property at Tatakamotonga, Tongatapu, reportedly claiming the life of one person, Kaniva News has learned.

Footage obtained by Kaniva shows an intense blaze tearing through what appears to be a building, with towering flames and thick smoke rising into the night sky.

The fire appears to have consumed a substantial part of the property, with the flames bright enough to illuminate nearby buildings and vegetation.

Kaniva understands that one person has died, although only limited information is available at this stage.

The identity of the victim, the precise location of the property, the circumstances surrounding the fire and its cause have yet to be confirmed.
