POLICE have arrested and charged Hon. Faith Munthali, a member of Parliament for Mafinga South, with being armed in public and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Muchinga Province, Commissioner of Police, Lubinda Mayamba said in a statement Saturday that the charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between July 13 and Aug. 14 in the Muyombe area of Mafinga District in Muchinga Province.
Police allege Munthali was in the company of men purporting to be her security personnel. The group was allegedly armed with machetes, slashers, catapults and golf clubs, and was behaving in a military-like manner that caused fear among residents.
Munthali is charged under Section 85 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
She is jointly charged with Gift Simfukwe, Mishack Singongo and Royd Musumali. Police said the three co-accused have appeared before the Isoka Resident Magistrate’s Court and entered pleas.
Trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 17, 2026. Munthali remains in Police custody and will appear in court at a later date, according to police.
