MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A Michigan man is facing charges after a high-speed chase through three Indiana counties in a stolen pickup truck.
According to the Indiana State Police Bremen District, the incident began at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Trooper Rine of the Indiana State Police Peru Post spotted a stolen black 2015 Dodge pickup truck and tried to pull the driver over on U.S. 24 near Logansport Road in Miami County. The driver refused to stop and fled north on U.S. 31.
The chase continued through Fulton County and into Marshall County. At one point, the driver, later identified as Shane Morton, 33, of Holland, Michigan, drove into the median to avoid tire-deflation devices and drove north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31. He later crossed back over the median and headed west on U.S. 30 toward Plymouth.
The pursuit continued to State Road 17, where the truck hit a tire-deflation device. Morton continued to drive on the wheel rim until the truck went off the road and hit several trees.
Then at around 2:34 p.m. Indiana State Police arrested Morton near 12th Road and Sage Trail in Marshall County.
Police took Morton to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for injuries from the crash. After doctors cleared him, they took him to the Miami County Jail.
Morton faces charges of resisting law enforcement, theft and reckless driving.
Indiana State Police Bremen and Peru posts investigated the chase. Several other agencies helped as the chase moved through their areas.
