Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) — Following discussions between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Iraqi Football Association President Younis Mahmoud, FIFA will finance a new football development initiative in Iraq that includes a Baghdad sports center, new training grounds, and facilities for young players.
According to the Iraqi Football Association, the two executives discussed a new plan for upgrading the country’s football infrastructure and developing players, coaches, and other personnel.
FIFA intends to assist the building of a sports center in Baghdad that will serve young age groups, as well as artificial-turf training grounds. The youth pitch projects are expected to be completed within 60 days after receiving the necessary land.
The discussions also included proposals for a high-quality primary training surface, a new Iraqi FA headquarters, a sports health center, other training facilities, and player accommodations.
FIFA will also expand the opportunity for Iraqi coaches, administrators, and medical experts to participate in its growth and training programs.
According to the Iraqi FA, Infantino supports attempts to hold future regional tournaments, international events, and qualifying groups in Iraq, building on the country’s steady comeback as an international football destination.
According to the organization, Infantino has confirmed intentions to visit Baghdad, but no date has been set.
The initiative would provide the Iraqi FA with extra facilities for training young players while also increasing FIFA’s engagement in the country’s football development.
