The defense of former State Committee for National Security Chairman Kamchybek Tashiev plans to appeal the Bishkek City Court’s ruling in the «Letter of 75» case. His lawyer, Ikramidin Aitkulov, told journalists.
According to him, the court’s decision is illegal and unfounded.
«Well, honestly, it is a ridiculous decision. It is completely illegal and unfounded. Of course, we will appeal it,» Ikramidin Aitkulov said.
He said he did not understand on what grounds the court had reclassified the charges against Kamchybek Tashiev.
«How can I legally explain the emergence of Article 195? They could not simply do this because completely different charges had been brought against them,» the lawyer said.
Ikramidin Aitkulov added that the former SCNS chairman and the other defendants had initially been charged with preparing to seize power by force. According to him, the defense considers the change in the legal classification of the charges during the trial unfounded.
All defendants said they disagreed with the court’s decision. They will appeal it to the Supreme Court.
This was also confirmed by lawyer Chinara Dzhakupbekova, who represents one of the letter’s signatories, Kursan Asanov.
As reported earlier, the Bishkek City Court today issued its ruling in the Letter of 75 case. The court reclassified the defendants’ charges from preparing to seize power by force to Article 195 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic «Obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights, the rights of referendum participants or the work of election commissions.»
All defendants were sentenced to four years in prison, with two years of probation supervision applied.
