Dominican Customs makes largest ammunition seizure in four years

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) seized 74,100 rounds of ammunition concealed inside eight truck engines at the Haina Oriental Customs Administration, marking the institution’s largest ammunition seizure in a single operation in the past four years.

The shipment contained 64,420 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 9,680 rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, according to the DGA.

Customs officials discovered the ammunition during inspection and risk-control procedures designed to prevent the entry and circulation of goods that could pose risks to public safety.

The seizure surpasses a previous record from February 2025, when authorities confiscated 36,000 rounds of ammunition, including 20,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 16,000 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.

Following the discovery, the case was turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which, in coordination with other authorities, conducted three simultaneous raids as part of the ongoing investigation.
