The Oct. 3 gathering at Saint Mark’s High School will bring men from Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore together for speakers, prayer, fellowship and Mass with Bishop William Koenig.
WILMINGTON, Del. — Catholic men from across Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore will gather in Wilmington this fall for the inaugural Catholic Men of Delmarva Conference, a new all-day event focused on strengthening men’s faith, families and leadership.
The conference, titled “Authentic Masculinity,” will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at Saint Mark’s High School, 2501 Pike Creek Road. Organizers are planning for as many as 350 participants.
The event is being organized by Catholic Men of Delmarva, a nonprofit formed in Delaware in June 2025. The independent organization works in spiritual partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, which includes Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Organizers say the conference is intended to help men deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and become stronger husbands, fathers, sons, brothers and servant leaders in their homes, churches and communities.
Men from other faith traditions who are interested in learning more about Catholicism are also invited. Adult sons are encouraged to attend with their fathers, while younger sons may participate when accompanied by an adult man.
A regional gathering
The inaugural conference is designed to connect men from parishes and missions throughout the Diocese of Wilmington’s six deaneries.
Catholic Men of Delmarva is working with volunteer parish captains from more than 50 churches to promote the gathering, coordinate registrations and encourage men who may not otherwise participate in a parish men’s ministry.
The organization hopes the conference will reach both established parish leaders and men who are beginning to become more involved in their faith. The intended audience includes members of parish men’s groups, the Knights of Columbus, Exodus 90, Heroic Men, FOCUS and the University of Delaware’s Newman Center, as well as men considering the priesthood or permanent diaconate.
Three featured speakers
The conference will feature three keynote speakers: the Rev. Larry Swink, Matthew Leonard and Gary Zimak.
Swink is a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington and parochial vicar at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Ordained in 2006, he has led retreats and pilgrimages for more than a decade, with an emphasis on prayer, the Mass, confession and helping Catholics connect their daily lives to their faith.
Leonard is an author, international speaker, podcaster and founder of Science of Sainthood, an online Catholic spiritual formation program. A convert to Catholicism and former missionary in Latin America, he has produced and hosted Catholic video programs distributed in multiple languages.
Zimak is an author, radio host and Catholic speaker known for addressing anxiety from a faith-based perspective. He has appeared on Catholic radio and television and has presented parish missions, retreats and conferences throughout the United States and Canada.
The Rev. John Solomon and Deacon Philip Belt will also give vocational presentations. The Rev. James Gebhart will offer the welcoming address and lead Eucharistic adoration.
Prayer, music and Mass
Registration and refreshments will begin at 8 a.m., followed by music from Numinous Worship at 8:45 a.m. The formal program will begin at 9 a.m.
In addition to the keynote presentations, the conference will include Eucharistic adoration, the sacrament of reconciliation, vocational talks, a presentation by the Knights of Columbus and a question-and-answer session with the speakers.
Refreshments and a catered lunch are included. Catholic organizations and ministries will also have exhibits available throughout the day.
The conference will conclude with Mass at 4 p.m., celebrated by Bishop William Koenig of the Diocese of Wilmington. Final announcements and dismissal are scheduled for 5 p.m.
Organizers envision the gathering becoming an annual conference and a way to strengthen men’s participation in their parishes and communities.
