Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Conrad Sackey has confirmed that school subsidies have been paid, following a commitment by the Ministry of Finance to release the funds.

Speaking on AYV’s Wake Up Sierra Leone, Minister Sackey said the Ministry of Finance had assured the education sector that the subsidies would be paid.

“The Ministry of Finance made a commitment that the school subsidies would be paid, and I can confirm that they were paid yesterday,” Sackey said.

The confirmation comes amid concerns over the availability of resources needed by schools to support teaching and learning as the new academic year gets underway.

The payment of the subsidies is expected to help schools meet essential operational needs and support the effective delivery of education across the country.

Minister Sackey’s remarks are likely to ease concerns among school authorities, teachers and other stakeholders who have been awaiting the release of the funds.
