ONE pedestrian has died and another was seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Lusaka on Sept. 7, 2026, police have confirmed.
Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said the first accident occurred around 21:30 hours along Great East Road near the University of Zambia.
It involved an unidentified male pedestrian, aged between 25 and 30, and a Honda Fit, registration CAK 8877ZM, driven by Frank Chisala, 26, of Mtendere East.
Preliminary investigations indicate the pedestrian was crossing Great East Road towards Munali Roundabout when he was hit. He sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital. The body is in the hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. The driver escaped unhurt and the vehicle’s front was damaged.
In a separate incident around the same time, Westwood Police Station recorded a hit-and-run accident along Mumbwa Road near Connec Block Factory in Lusaka West.
A male pedestrian, aged between 30 and 35, was hit by an unidentified vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Mtengo Health Post in Lusaka West.
Police have commenced investigations into both accidents.
Chilabi expressed concern over hit-and-run cases involving pedestrians. He urged motorists to stop, render assistance and report accidents, and to observe speed limits especially at night. Pedestrians were also urged to use designated crossing points.
