POLICE on the Copperbelt have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly burning two children’s hands and detained a 15-year-old girl after a newborn’s body was found at a dumpsite.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga said the first incident occurred on Sept. 4 in Kaloko Compound, Ndola. The suspect allegedly punished two 7-year-old children by placing their hands on a burning brazier after accusing them of eating relish. The children sustained superficial burns. The suspect was arrested on Sept. 5.
In Kalulushi, a newborn boy was found wrapped in a plastic bag at a dumpsite near Mulemu Clinic on Sept. 5. A 15-year-old girl allegedly disclosed that she unexpectedly gave birth while using the toilet. She allegedly wrapped the baby in a plastic bag and disposed of the body at the dumpsite before cleaning the toilet.
The body was deposited at Kalulushi General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. The 15-year-old was admitted to the same hospital for medical examination and treatment under police guard.
Both cases are under investigation.
