The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperu) stated that
is expected to generate travel by 800,000 domestic and international travelers, given that international tourists may extend their stays in the country.
“It has been estimated that Pope Leo XIV’s visit will generate travel by 800,000 tourists, both domestic and international. That is the figure we have at this time for the days the Holy Father will be in our country,” said PromPeru Executive President Teresa Mera.
“There is an expectation that foreign visitors coming to Peru during those days will extend their stays, which is why we will confirm this as they register,” she added.
The official indicated that PromPeru has been working on Pope Leo XIV’s visit for some time now, but that there are still details to be fine-tuned as the locations and times of the Supreme Pontiff’s appearances are determined.
“We have been working very intensively across different sectors. At PromPeru, we have been specifically supporting the promotion of Pope Leo XIV’s visit and the tourist attractions of the cities the Supreme Pontiff will visit,” Mera noted.
“We will increase the number of PromPeru representatives available to assist tourists during their visit. We will also train regional and local governments, tourism operators, and the population so that we can all help make Pope Leo XIV’s stay a pleasant experience,” she added.
The official said PromPeru is following guidance from the relevant meteorological authorities to take the necessary precautions in case of any weather-related inconveniences.
