Chamoli district has achieved an outstanding milestone in the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, which is part of the national program for cervical cancer prevention. Chamoli is the first district in Uttarakhand to achieve the target of 100% HPV vaccination coverage. A 100% achievement rate was recorded by successfully vaccinating all 3,174 girls in the targeted 14-year age group. Under the directives of District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar, the Health Department executed the campaign effectively. Ensuring 100% vaccination in a remote, border district like Chamoli—characterized by challenging geographical terrain—was a difficult task; however, Health Department teams accomplished it successfully through extensive public awareness and coordinated efforts. Intensive public awareness activities were conducted at the school level as part of the campaign.

The District Immunization Section, the District IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) Cell, ANMs, Community Health Officers, and ASHA workers motivated eligible girls and their parents to get vaccinated by explaining the importance of the HPV vaccine. The campaign gained momentum across schools, vaccination sites, and health centers with the support of the Education Department. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rajiv Singh Pal stated that HPV vaccination is a crucial initiative for preventing cervical cancer. The vaccine is being provided free of cost to eligible girls at government health facilities. Congratulating the entire Health Department team on achieving the 100% target, he remarked that this achievement was made possible through collective effort.
