Mysuru district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Maddikere Gopal passed away on Thursday.
Mr. Gopal, 77, breathed his last at Jayadeva Hospital in Mysuru. He leaves behind his wife Anasuya Gopal and daughter Mala, son in Law Bhavani Shankar and grandchildren.
The body was kept at his residence for the public to pay their last respects and later taken to Kannada Sahitya Parishat premises.
The last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hills later on Thursday evening.
Hailing from Maddikere in Chikkamagaluru district, Mr. Gopal completed his high school eduction in Mudigere and his graduation in law at Mysuru. After serving as president of Mysuru District Kannada Sahitya Parishat from 2008 to 2011, Mr. Gopal was re-elected to the post for the second time in 2021.
Condoling Mr. Gopal’s death, Mysuru District Congress Committee president B. J. Vijaykumar said Mr. Gopal was a prominent figure in the Old Mysuru region, who was deeply rooted in public consciousness through his position in the literary field for the last 40 years.
