Today, Sept 1, is the final day for candidates wishing to run in the mid term elections in November to file nomination petitions with the Election Office.
As of yesterday six candidates had filed nomination petitions for the congressional race: Aumua Amata, Fualaau Rosie Lancaster, Tuifagaloa Dr Afu Lefaoseu, Samana Semo Veavea, Meleagi Suitonu-Chapman and Sandra King-Young.
For the House of Representatives elections, four districts were showing just one candidate having filed petitions to be on the ballot.
These are District #7 where incumbent Vailoata Amituanai was the sole candidate as of yesterday, District #9 with current faipule Trude Ledoux-Sunia filing the only nomination petition, District #13 with incumbent faipule Fiu Johnny Saelua as the sole candidate and District #16 with current Representative Manavaalofa Tutuila Manase being the only candidate.
In the 2024 elections four incumbent representatives ran unopposed. Malaeoletalu Melesio Gurr in District #8, Avagafono Vaimaga Maiava in District #6, Faimealelei Anthony Allen in District #11 and Fiu Johnny Saelua in District #13.
The deadline for those wishing to have their names on the ballot for the November 3 elections is 430 pm today.
