Missing Juneau teens found dead of gunshot wounds

A pair of missing Juneau teens were found dead Monday afternoon.
The Juneau Police Department said at approximately 2:25 p.m. Aug. 31, missing juveniles Leotis Phillips, 16, and Zoey Clark, 16, were located deceased in a wooded area above the 6800 block of Glacier Highway.
“Preliminary information indicates that both juveniles died from gunshot wounds. A firearm was located at the scene,” according to a release from Juneau Police Department. “Their bodies will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy.”
Next of kin has been notified. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
Phillips was reported missing from his Kanata Street residence shortly before 6 a.m. Aug. 31, with Clark reported missing from her Teal Street home a few hours later. In issuing an appeal to the public to help locate the missing teens, police voiced concern that the pair were believed to be in possession of a firearm.
The Juneau School District plans to make support and counseling services available to students and staff affected by this tragedy.
