Flora listed as starting RB in Iowa State’s first depth chart

Cyclones open the Jimmy Rogers era Saturday at home

AMES, Iowa —

There are 83 newcomers to the Iowa State roster. Some of the returning players, however, will still make a big impact this season.

Jimmy Rogers’ first depth chart dropped on Tuesday. ADM grad Aiden Flora is listed as the starter at running back. He’ll also be the top punt returner. Bowling Green transfer Cameron Pettaway is the backup at RB and the top kick returner. Both players are explosive with the ball and should see plenty of touches.

Flora’s high school teammate at ADM, Vince Benetti, is listed as one of the starters at tight end. Drew Surges, who closed last season as a reliable member of the secondary, will start at strong safety. Other returning players in line to start are DT Zaimir Hawk, LB Carson Willich, and star kicker Kyle Konrardy.

At QB, we already knew Jaylen Raynor would start. The backup position remains unsettled, with SEP grad Connor Moberly and Oklahoma State transfer Zane Flores listed on the same line.

ISU opens the season Saturday at noon against SE Missouri. The game is on ESPN+.
