Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala has called for collective national action to tackle examination malpractice, describing it as a serious threat to the credibility of Sierra Leone’s education system.

Speaking at a civic town hall discussion in Freetown on threats to quality education, Commissioner Kaifala said exam fraud involves various actors, including teachers, parents, school administrators and pupils.

He recalled the scale of examination malpractice when he took office in 2018, citing an incident in Aberdeen where students were reportedly sitting public examinations close to 11 PM.

ACC officials stormed the venue, seized examination papers and took them to the Commission’s headquarters.

Kaifala said similar coordinated malpractice has continued in different parts of the country, with some cases implicating school principals, teachers and examination authorities.

He stressed that examination fraud destroys public trust and urged stronger collaboration among education stakeholders and law enforcement agencies to protect the integrity of examinations at every level.
