South Korea’s game giants are quickly outgrowing the traditional export model

Overseas revenue at South Korea’s five largest game companies reached $4.1 billion (6.06 trillion won) in the first half of this year, lifting their average overseas share to 74%.

This comes as several of the country’s largest publishers increasingly generate overseas revenue through foreign studios, acquisitions and intellectual property alongside sales of games developed in Korea.

The surge exposes an increasingly important gap between the globalization of Korean game companies and the growth of Korean game exports.
