FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Dale Hertel, a Hall of Fame coach for Fargo South High School and Concordia College, has died. He died Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the age of 76 according to Boulger Funeral Home.

Hertel arrived at Fargo South High School in 1976 and guided the Bruins to eight North Dakota Class A state championships, with his 1978 team, named the state’s Team of the Year. He was a three-time North Dakota High School Coach of the Year and four-time nominee for National Coach of the Year.

A standout quarterback and punter for Concordia in the late 1960s, Hertel was MIAC MVP in 1970 and was inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. He returned to the Cobbers’ staff in 1997 as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator, helping develop multiple all-conference players.
