An India Today ground report highlights the severe waterlogging and traffic chaos plaguing Gurugram during monsoon rains due to the complete clogging of the Badshapur drain. The 28-kilometre-long drain, which is the primary drainage system of Gurugram, has nearly 18 kilometres severely impacted by illegal construction, encroachment, and accumulated garbage. At key locations such as Tulip Chowk and Vatika Chowk, ground coverage reveals still, stagnant water, uncleared silt, and major bottlenecks that prevent smooth drainage. Incessant rains over two days caused the drain to overflow onto city roads. The report points out severe apathy by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and local administration, questioning why authorities failed to clean, desilt, or clear encroachments along the operational and non-operational sections of the city’s largest drain to relieve residents of annual waterlogging woes.
