The hospitality executive who was battling for the right to lead the People’s National Party’s, PNP, machinery in the party’s Region Six, Jerome Darnells, has lost the election after a recount on Monday.

Darenells secured 120 votes to Senator Allan Bernard’s 131 in the recount. This, after the initial election on Sunday ended in a tie.

Both Darnells and Bernard, each reportedly got 108 votes after a preliminary count.

Darnells had accused some comrades of attempting to rig Sunday’s election. He wrote on his WhatsApp, “I went into their hometown and beat them fair and square, so they had no choice but to try and rigged (sic) the elections.”

There were initial reports that Darnells had edged out Bernard by a single vote, with 108 to Bernard’s 107.

Nationwide News understands officers of the PNP were to meet on Monday to decide whether to seek to include up to 72 spoilt ballots from Sunday’s contest in the official vote tally.
