At lunchtime on any other Monday, soft breadsticks and pan pizzas, their pepperoni curled into glistening cups, would land on the checkered tables at Pizza Hut and envelop the dining area in the rich warmth of dough, grease, salt and indulgence.
Cars would stream through the parking lot, where Loudon Road meets Canterbury Road in Concord.
Instead, no customers gathered under the restaurant’s gray-shingled roof this Monday. A moving crew processed efficiently in and out of the brick building, like marching ants, withdrawing furniture and loading it into a Penske truck.
Pizza Hut closed its location in Concord, as well as its location in Dover, on Sunday, August 23. The restaurant had been in operation for more than 40 years.
“We want to thank all of our valued customers for your loyalty and support,” read an announcement displayed on flyers inside the establishment. “Thank you for being part of our Pizza Hut family. We look forward to serving you again soon.”
The message teased a “new location coming soon,” although little information is known about when and where it will open.
Pizza Hut’s parent company, Yum Brands, announced in June that the chain would be sold for $2.7 billion: the private equity firm LongRange Capital would buy the business, excluding locations on mainland China, for $1.5 billion. Yum China Holdings Inc. would buy the remaining properties for approximately $1.2 billion.
