Newcomer Kamba Kandoa is the hottest gold medal prospect for the SP Games weightlifting events.

He has equalled the PNG snatch record in the 67.5kg division and has been lifting 120kg in the clean and jerk during training.

The seven-man weightlifting team has been training at a warehouse at Gordon, a facility far inferior to their Pacific counterparts such as host country Western Samoa who have two lifters training in world class facilities in New Zealand.

The team raised funds by organising a raffle at K50 a ticket. The raffle was drawn along with the Pacific cruise raffle.

The winner was Mokal Koi of Steamships, Port Moresby.
