The mother of a teenage boy who was killed when the car in which he was travelling deliberately drove the wrong way down the motorway and smashed into another car, has apologised to the seriously injured family and asked for prayers.
Jeremy O’Brien’s mother, Margaret Berry, said her son – who was 18 when he died in the horror crash on the M9 – “never set out to hurt anyone”.
Jeremy was killed alongside Alex McCarthy (17), Joey Carthy (15), Jack Kennedy (17), and Kamil Pustkowski (17) in the horrific crash on the M9 inn the early hours of the morning last Sunday.
Three sisters from Carlow, Niamh and Alma Kinsella, and their sister Ella Hendricken along with a 7-year-old boy, were left with ‘catastrophic’ and serious injuries after the crash, when the teenagers’ BMW slammed into their Hyundai as they were on their way to Dublin airport for a wedding.
Bereaved mother Margaret Berry told the Irish Sun: “I wish my son had never got into that car.”
“My heart goes out to this poor family and if I could see them I would apologise. I have said prayers for them and I hope to God that they can heal,” she said.
She said she did not condone the behaviour of the teens.

“I also hope one day that the family who remain in hospital can find some kind of forgiveness some day. I will continue to pray for them,” she said.
“My son and those other boys didn’t set out that night to intentionally hurt people and my heart will always break for everyone who’s involved in this nightmare.”
She told the newspaper: “I raised my son on my own and I’ve now lost a part of me for life, and so have the other mothers. I also don’t know why they drove in that manner and I pray that the full investigation can establish the facts and tell us the truth about what happened.
“I know we can’t go back in time, and my son is gone forever, but I will continue to pray to God that the poor family in the hospital can recover.”
The funerals of three of the teenagers, Joey Carthy, Alex McCarthy and Kamil Pustowski took place on Friday, in Kildare, Carlow and Limerick respectively .
