Oakes Offense Struggles in Opener Against #1 Langdon

Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados couldn’t get liftoff on their offense till late against the top team in the state on Friday August 21st as they fell to the Langdon Area-Munich Cardinals by a final score of 40-14.

The Tornado defense did their job on the opening drive of Langdon as they would force a turnover on downs however sophomore rookie quarterback Owen Iverson would throw an interception to Maddux Stremick who would take it to the house for 6 making it 7-0 with 7:18 left in the 1st. On the following drive Oakes would fumble the ball away on the opening play for it to be returned to the 3 yard line. Eastyn Schaefer would run it in on a quarterback draw making it 14-0 at 6:56 left in the 1st.

The Cards would score again in the 2nd quarter with Schaefer connecting with TJ Henderson from 7 yards out to make it 21-0 with 7:59 left in the half. Their defense would continue to make quick work of the Tornado offense and a second fumble from the Oakes running backs would result in a turnover with Langdon scoring on an Evan Ottem 1 yard run making it 27-0. Oakes would finally score on the ensuing kick off with Andrew Rosendahl scampering down the far side line for a 90 yard touchdown return making it 27-6. Langdon would score once more with Ottem running the ball in from 5 yards to make it 33-6 going into the half.

Not much happened in the 3rd quarter as the defenses of both teams would lock down including a Landon Titus interception for Oakes’ first takeaway of the season. Langdon would get the scoring restarted in the 4th quarter however with another run from Ottem this time from 6 yards out to make it 40-6 with 5:01 left. Just 30 seconds later however Matthias Dahlstrom would score on a 76 yard run to make it 40-14 after the 2 point conversion. The game would then lull back into a defensive showcase for both teams and the score would remain the same till the end.

The Bank North Players of the Game were Landon Titus and Jyles Meier.

Oakes now enters a bye week and will return to play on Friday September 4th at 7:00 pm in Hillsboro to take on the Burros. You can catch that game on KDDR The Tornado.
