CLEVELAND, Ohio — Shedeur Sanders is back under center as the Cleveland Browns host the Buffalo Bills in preseason action today – Saturday, Aug. 22 – at Huntington Bank Field. This preseason game is available to watch on multiple channels and streaming platforms.
This game will broadcast live on WEWS (Cleveland), WIVB-CBS (Buffalo) and NFL Network at 1 p.m. Eastern. The Browns looked strong for most of the first half with Deshaun Watson at the helm, but quickly unraveled as the second and third-string units took their turn. After taking a 10-10 stalemate into halftime, Cleveland was waxed for 24 unanswered points.
Watson went 11 of 15 for 126 yards and lost a fumble, while Sanders finished 6 of 11 for 79 yards and one touchdown. Dillon Gabriel mopped up with 5 of 8 for 23 yards and one interception.
Rookie receiver KC Concepcion looked like a versatile weapon with a 14-yard touchdown run and three receptions for 27 yards. Concepcion also made his presence felt during joint practices with the Bills this week, hauling in a flurry of receptions.
Second-year running back Dylan Sampson led the Browns in receiving with 43 yards on two receptions, while Gage Larvadain hauled in four receptions for 37 yards. Luke Florea snagged one reception for 35 yards.
Running back Davon Booth led the ground game with four carries for 53 yards.
In the debut of new defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg, Cleveland’s defense allowed 430 yards to the Bears.
After Watson took the start in the opener, Sanders will get the call in today’s follow-up. The difference will be his protection as the Browns are planning to rest most of their starters.
The pressure to perform weighs heavy in front of a fanbase desperate to find an answer at the quarterback position. Barring a masterful display from Sanders, the tea leaves are trending for Watson to be named the starting quarterback for the season opener on Sept. 13.
Rookie offensive tackle Spencer Fano continues to shine in camp and joint practices. Having already secured his starting role, the latest reps are further justifying his rise into the teeth of the offensive line.

The Bills defeated the Carolina Panthers, 29-14, in their preseason opener on Aug. 15. It marked the Bills’ first win at the new Highmark Stadium. The franchise underwent a massive staff overhaul, headlined by first-time head coach Joe Brady, who was promoted from offensive coordinator.
Franchise quarterback Josh Allen threw his first touchdown pass in Buffalo’s new venue. In a decent sized sample, Allen finished 6 of 8 for 111 yards and one touchdown, while also being sacked once.
Kyle Allen took the bulk of the snaps, going 14 of 16 for 108 yards, but did suffer two sacks. Shane Buechele went 6 of 9 for 50 yards.
Buffalo’s ground game was busy. The Bills gashed Carolina’s defense for 151 yards on the ground. Ian Wheeler and Fran Gore Jr. each tallied a touchdown and combined for 14 carries for 79 yards.
Starting receiver DJ Moore led Buffalo in receiving with three receptions for 61 yards. Receiver Keon Coleman snagged a touchdown and finished with three receptions for 17 yards.
Fourth-year offensive lineman Alec Anderson is in the middle of one of the more competitive position battles in camp. He will need to put together a consistent display to secure his starting spot.
Defensive back Jordan Hancock is another player worth watching. He intercepted Watson at joint practices and nabbed four tackles and two TFL against the Panthers.
Tight end Kaliki Latu is worth a glance for a roster spot. Tight end is a traditionally deep position in Buffalo, but another solid performance could net him a coveted sixth receiver spot.
