INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has extended the city’s local disaster emergency as neighborhoods still grapple with the aftermath of historic flooding along the White River.
Hogsett’s first declaration came Aug. 14 as flooding seeped into vulnerable areas, prompting evacuations in multiple neighborhoods.
The second order, signed Friday, extends the state of emergency by another week, tentatively concluding on Aug. 28, unless ended sooner.
A city- and countywide travel advisory will also be in effect until then, which means “routine travel may be restricted in hazardous areas.”
Drivers are also encouraged to avoid the impacted areas.
