Estonia blocks majority of Swedish prisoners over gang tie fears

Estonia has rejected the majority of the first batch of Swedish inmates intended for transfer in a bid to alleviate severe prison overcrowding, citing fears that the individuals have “obvious connections” to organised crime.

According to reporting by the Expressen newspaper and news portal Delfi, which were cited by Swedish public service broadcaster SVT this week, Estonian authorities barred 20 individuals from the initial group of 37 from relocating due to gang links and the risk of “radicalisation.”
