A viral video shows an apparent road rage fight at Wyoming and Constitution, where one driver appeared to smash a window with a bat before a truck sped away.
ALBUQUERQUE – Albuquerque police say, as of Wednesday night, they are still investigating an apparent road rage incident near the intersection of Wyoming Boulevard and Constitution Avenue in northeast Albuquerque.
But a viral video clip showing what apparently happened is drawing attention to the problem of road rage in the city.
In that clip shared on TikTok by user @bigalgladiator, a woman in a burgundy SUV appears to break the back window of a man’s white pickup truck with a baseball bat.
She then gets back in her vehicle and starts to drive away while the driver of the white truck sits there for a moment. But a few seconds later, he follows her into the intersection and slams into the back of her car.
Police have not stated if this will lead to any charges or provided details on what led up to this incident.
However, a witness who works for Circle K nearby told KOB 4 there was plenty of commotion Tuesday morning.
“Me and my coworker, we heard something. We came outside, and that’s when we saw her hitting his back window. So, it was like really weird,” said Frank Hinojosa.
He says he lived in the metro for about a decade, and the road rage issue has only gotten worse, in his estimation.
“There’s just so much going on. People are frustrated. People are dealing with high gas prices, high food prices. Everybody’s agitated right now. So, anything will set it off,” he said.
Albuquerque police confirmed, as of last week, they have received at least 35 reports of road rage incidents this year. Tragically, four of those resulted in a death with three incidents involving a gun and one involving a knife.
This latest incident is just more proof, Hinojosa says, that road rage comes with severe risks.
“Albuquerque has gotten bad on this. So, just got to be careful. Stay calm. Stay in your car. Shoot the peace sign. Go about your business. Don’t do a confrontation,” he said.
He, and others who didn’t want to go on camera with KOB 4, also said that particular area gets very busy in the mornings and late afternoons, which results in frustrated drivers.
“There’s so much traffic going on nowadays. It’s crazy. People are impatient. I mean, I drive an hour out to get home now because I moved out of Albuquerque,” said Hinojosa.
