commemorated the 205th anniversary of the creation of Peru’s Republican Army —an institution established on August 18, 1821, by Don Jose de San Martin, shortly after the Proclamation of Independence.

In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the Ministry highlighted the Army’s role in protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Today, we pay tribute to every man and woman who serves Peru with honor, discipline, and dedication,” the statement reads.

Peru’s Republican Army was established on August 18, 1821. The historical document recording its founding states:

“Considering the dignity of the Government and the increase in physical strength needed to uphold Peru’s independence, I have ordered the creation of a corps whose eminent privilege shall be to serve as a model for the others, through its valor in combat and its discipline under all circumstances.”

Following the arrival of Simon Bolivar, the institution was reorganized to become part of the United Liberation Army and participate in campaigns aimed at consolidating national and American independence.

It played a leading role in the battles of Junin and Ayacucho.
