Sydney Kynast Whiting
Moultonborough, NH – Moultonborough – Sidney Kynast Whiting, known to all as Sid, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at his home in Moultonborough, New Hampshire, at the age of 90. Born on December 9, 1935, in Concord, Sid lived a full and purposeful life marked by curiosity, generosity, and an enduring commitment to those less fortunate.
Sid was a lifelong learner with an insatiable love for reading, and his academic journey reflected that passion. After graduating from Concord High School, he went on to earn degrees from Harvard University, Harvard Business School, and Suffolk Law School. Armed with that remarkable education and a restless entrepreneurial spirit, Sid built a career that left a lasting mark on the cable television industry. He served at Dams & Russell Cablevision and Cablevision Boston and later founded Amrac Cable Television, pioneering service to small communities across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Earlier in his career, he also founded Financial Research, demonstrating the same drive and vision that defined everything he pursued.
Beyond business, Sid was a lifelong member of the Unitarian Universalist Church. He was deeply concerned with creating opportunity and fairness for all people. He gave generously to charity and to those experiencing homelessness, never turning away when someone needed help. In retirement, he found a quiet but meaningful way to serve others by helping elderly individuals navigate their Medicare Part D filings, sometimes saving couples thousands of dollars in prescription costs. It was the kind of work that rarely made headlines but changed lives all the same.
Sid was a man of quick wit and warm humor, always ready with a friendly joke to put people at ease. When he wasn’t helping others, you could find him on Lake Winnipesaukee, either out on the boat or simply sitting in the sun with a good book, perfectly content. He was a longtime member of the Unitarian churches in Concord, New Hampshire, Lexington, and Canton, Massachusetts, and carried with him a quiet faith rooted in kindness and community.
Sid is survived by his beloved wife, Gerry Whiting; his sons, Karl Whiting and David Whiting; David’s wife, Kier Whiting; and his nephews, Steven Whiting and Douglas Whiting. He cherished his family deeply and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. He was predeceased by his dearly missed younger brother, Roger, and in a poignant coincidence, Sid passed away on the very same date as Roger’s passing years earlier.
Sid’s family invites all who knew and loved him to a graveside service on June 3 at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord, New Hampshire, followed by a reception. All are welcome to attend and celebrate a life well lived.
