MBABANE– FNB Eswatini has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation of golfers, with the bank describing young players as its legacy, the future of the sport and an important part of the future of Eswatini.
This was highlighted today by FNB Eswatini CEO Thokozani Dlamini during the inaugural FNB Eswatini Junior Golf Day at MTN golf park, which brought together young golfers and Sunshine Tour professionals for a day of mentorship, skills development and interaction.
Dlamini said FNB’s investment in junior golf was about more than the development of talent on the course, but also about creating opportunities for young emaSwati to gain exposure, learn from experienced professionals and realise their potential.
He commended the Sunshine Tour professionals who took time to mentor the youngsters, saying their involvement demonstrated the importance of opening doors for the next generation.
“There’s no better demonstration of opening and holding doors for others than what you’re doing here today,” Dlamini said.
He added that the experience would leave a lasting impression on the young golfers while also helping them develop a connection with the professionals and the sport.
“I have no doubt in my mind that our youngsters will carry today’s memories for the rest of their lives. I also have no doubt that in them you’ve certainly made new supporters,” he said.
Dlamini also thanked the sponsors who supported the initiative and parents for trusting FNB with their children.
The junior golfers had an opportunity to spend time with Sunshine Tour professionals Shaydon Johnson, Eric Wowor, Austin Mabaso and Benjamin Kedochim, who shared their knowledge and provided practical guidance on different aspects of the game.
The professionals helped the youngsters understand the fundamentals of golf while encouraging them to enjoy the sport and continue developing their skills.
Eswatini golf union representative Brett Naylor welcomed the opportunity for the young players to interact with professionals, saying the experience would expose them to new techniques and provide guidance as they develop their careers.
“I’m happy these young golfers got an opportunity to spend time with the Sunshine Tour golf professionals. Hope you’ll learn some new tips and they’ll guide you a bit more about being a golfer,” Naylor said.
Naylor said the potential among the young golfers was already visible and expressed hope that more initiatives of this nature would be held in future. “We can already see some of the good pros coming out of you. We look forward to many more of these going forward,” he said.
For the junior golfers, the event provided an opportunity to learn from professionals while also rediscovering the enjoyment that comes with the sport.
Ngomane Senele of Mananga Golf Club described the day as an amazing experience, revealing that her journey in golf began after she was introduced to the sport by her father. Senele said she was grateful for the opportunity to participate, adding that golf had become a meaningful part of her life.
The event also allowed the young golfers to learn through direct interaction with professionals, covering aspects such as the long game, smooth swings and short-game fundamentals.
The inaugural FNB Eswatini Junior Golf Day therefore provided a platform for young golfers to gain valuable exposure and mentorship, while reinforcing the importance of investing in the next generation of Eswatini’s sporting talent.
