Pacific Brewing Tonga is set to relaunch in Nuku’alofa tomorrow, marking a new phase for the local beverage producer following a period of restructuring and change.

The company says it is now under female Tongan ownership and management, supported by a Pacific-based team, Australian co-investment and industry specialists in brewing, production, distribution, sales and marketing.

The relaunch will recognise the legacy of the late ‘Alo Fe’iloakitau, whose contribution to the brewery will be acknowledged during the event.

A Pacific Brewing representative said the company’s focus was on rebuilding the business while creating employment, developing local skills and producing beverages in Tonga.

The new team includes two experienced Australian brewers who will support product development and production standards, while also contributing to skills transfer within the local workforce.

Pacific Brewing has previously developed a range of locally produced beverages, including Maui Lager and Tiki Pale Ale in 2017 and its Sparkling Kava product, all developed by a local team at its production centre at the Small Industries Centre in Ma’ufanga.

The company’s move into Sparkling Kava has also attracted regional attention. In 2024, RNZ Pacific reported that Pacific Brewing launched the drink on tap at Reload Bar in Nuku’alofa after a two-year development process.

The relaunch will showcase the brewery’s beers and ready-to-drink beverages, alongside its planned Sparkling Kava range.

The company says its broader aim is to create local employment, strengthen industry skills and develop beverages made in Tonga for the Pacific.
